Disease management in orchards

Exceptional new fungicides can relieve pressure for fruit growers

Fungicidal diseases are a major cause of concern for fruit and nut growers. Even when they appear to be controlled in the growing crop, their insidious effects can cause very costly damage after harvest.

The newly launched Luna® family of fungicides from Bayer CropScience is set to relieve disease pressure in selected crops and reduce the economic pressure associated with high rates of fruit spoilage all along the food supply chain.
Growers using Luna products can look forward to unprecedented control of some of the most problematic fungal diseases.
For fruit growers, exceptional in-field control of fungi will provide extended vitality that can lead to the enormous benefits of improved storability and increased shelf-life.
For consumers, it will mean plenty of healthy and attractive produce to choose from.

New mode of action; new levels of control
Each Luna product contains fluopyram, an innovative active ingredient discovered by Bayer CropScience in 1999.
Fluopyram provides a new mode of action in some crops to help growers manage resistance as well as maintain a very high level of disease control.
Fluopyram belongs to new chemical family called pyridinylethylbenzamides, which fits within the existing SDHI fungicide group. For resistance management purposes, fluopyram is a Group 7 fungicide.

Two products to lead the way
Two unique Luna formulations are being released in Australia in 2015: Luna Privilege and Luna Sensation.
It is expected that Luna Privilege will quickly become banana growers’ first choice of protection against yellow sigatoka and help solve one of their major headaches.
Luna Sensation is a very impressive all-rounder that will soon be the go-to fungicide for stone fruit, apple, pear and almond growers.
With the addition of trifloxystrobin, the active ingredient in Flint® —a well-established fungicide also by Bayer—this dual-active product is able to help growers manage key diseases in stone fruit, apple, pear and almond crops.
