SunUp reflective orchard film reflects the sun’s UV rays up into the underside and central areas of the tree canopy.
Light is reflected directly onto shaded fruit that are normally difficult to colour.
Placing the film between rows of trees improves fruit colour, size, soluble solids or Brix, and results in significantly more fruit being selected in the first pick.
How SunUp works
SunUp re-directs sunlight into the lower tree canopy.
Red colour development in tree fruit is triggered by sunlight falling directly onto the fruit to produce the red colourant, anthocyanin.
Effectiveness
Initial colour change is seen in the background colour. This colour change starts a few days after SunUp is laid in the orchard and increases over time.
The best red colour enhancement occurs when the film is placed in the orchard 3 to 4 weeks prior to harvest.
Benefits include:
- Better fruit colour. SunUp enhances red colour and improves background colour
- Fruit has increased Brix (soluble solids)
- Earlier and more balanced harvesting with a greater evenness of fruit colour development
- Reduces harvesting time with fewer passes for picking, and more fruit available in the first pick.
