Minimise sunburn in orchards

Benefits of applying Photon 500 SG earlier

The benefits of applying Photon 500 SG earlier in the cropping cycle—new products require new thinking.

Much of the scientific literature written about the application of particle films for mitigation of sun damage, has focussed on applying particle film type products in the three months prior to harvest.
Newer innovative products, like Photon 500SG, require updated thinking in relation to how they actually work, how they are applied, the application timing window and the wider range of benefits gained from their application to the crop.

Application for best results
Extensive trials in Australia and overseas have shown that maximum benefit can be achieved by applying Photon 500 SG from early November through to the end of February when Australian temperatures are likely to exceed 30C. At temperatures above 30C, plants begin to shut down which results in lost productivity.
Photon 500 SG is not a particle film which leaves a white residue like many of the other products. Photon 500 SG, contains a blend of dicarboxylic acids, which are natural compounds found in all plants, that control a specific enzyme system associated with the plant stress response.
They effectively prepare the plant for the onset of environmental stress in the form of not only sun damage, but heat and drought stress. Thus application of Photon 500 SG from November through to February, has shown the best results.
Australian trials over the last 5 years have shown that Photon 500 SG has provided equivalent mitigation from sun damage to particle film products.
Photon 500 SG also has the following additional benefits:

  • Low cost/use rate: Approximately 5 applications of Photon 500SG required over a season would cost $100 to $200 depending on the use rate.
  • Formulation: Excellent low dust water soluble granule formulation that leaves NO white residue. Maximum rate of only 40g/ha.
  • Rainfastness: Rainfast within 4 hours.
  • Compatibility: Good compatibility with commonly used tank mix products and translaminar activity means good coverage is more easily achieved than with particle film technology.
  • WHP: Not required when used as directed.
  • Re-Entry Period: 0 days.
