Disease management in orchards

Post-harvest protection key for marketable fruit

Post-harvest fungicide application is an essential tool for Australian fruit growers and packers to protect produce from disease in the final stages of production.

Scholar® is an important tool for post-harvest disease management in many fruit crops including blue mould in pome fruit; and brown rot, grey mould and Rhizopus rot in stone fruit.
It belongs to a new chemistry group (Group 12) and, when used post-harvest, Scholar can be integrated into crop management programs to assist in delivering quality fruit with a long shelf life.
Scholar is a protectant, contact fungicide containing the active ingredient Fludioxonil, which works by inhibiting spore germination and stopping mycelial growth.
A recent independent apple post-harvest trial conducted by R&D Solutions, concluded that under high disease pressure conditions (artificial inoculation with blue mould), Scholar gave the best control of blue mould and was significantly better than all other competitor fungicide treatments evaluated.
