Vigilance Technologies is applying artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and deter birds and flying foxes.
Birds and flying foxes can now be located and identified within an orchard thanks to advances in security cameras and artificial intelligence applied to machine vision.
Species–specific deterrents are activated when the flying animals are detected.
Field trials have shown that accurate detection ensures that the flying animals have minimal exposure to the deterrents, minimising habituation.
The system consists of single or several security cameras located around the orchard connected via a wireless local area network (LAN) to a central computer. The central computer processes the video and will activate deterrents also connected to the LAN.
Vigilance offers a design service to ensure robust network integration.
Vigilance still offers its usual range of responsive deterrents but also offers either aerial or land-based drones which can be directed toward flying animals located by the cameras.
