Planning an orchard—will you net at any stage?

Planning for a protective canopy from the start can save you many dollars down the track.

In over two decades of designing and installing horticultural netting, Netpro have a few pointers for you to consider when planning a new orchard:

  • Leave at least 8 m between the boundary and any outside rows and row-ends—this allows placement of poles and anchors within your boundaries
  • Trellis can be strained off canopy boundary poles (i.e. the canopy structure can provide support and economy of installation for trellis).
  • Row spacing 4.5 m to 6 m; maximum length 250 m
  • Consider very carefully the placement of irrigation mains
  • New powerlines should be installed extra-high or buried.
