Nutrient application near harvest improves cherry maturity and colour

Stoller has a range of liquid nutrient products for application through the various crop stages with the aim of keeping hormones in balance and in the correct ratio for tree health and function.

In January the Stoller technical group hosted the 20th International Ag-Associates annual conference in Houston Texas.

Hundreds of participants travelled to Houston to exchange information and listen to presentations from a range of practical advisors and researchers.

A large range of crops and topics are covered from all over the globe.

Timely nutrient treatments improve cherry colour
In the Tree Fruit Sector, the technical manager from Stoller Chile, Andres Gonzalez, made a presentation on, The importance of colour in cherries.

He reported on work done by researchers at Rio Blanco showing that properly timed nutrient treatments can improve colouring on cherries.

Leading up to harvest, a treatment with a Stoller product called Sugar Mover, along with a potassium application, improved the maturity and colour of the cherries.

Sugar Mover contains boron and molybdenum (along with special formulating agents) and Harvest More Potassium (similar to Harvest Plus in Australia) delivers potassium and phosphorus to the tree.

Based on the principals discussed on pages 14 and 15, the fruit on treated trees had significantly better colour and improved size and quality (see Figure 1).
The worldwide Stoller Group continues to work with a range of tree crops to get optimal production and profitability.
